Zerelda Lee’s is een Tom Waits Tribute-band die zich richt op de energieke, rauwere kant van Waits’ repertoire. Geen pianoballads, maar nummers die stampen, swingen en met veel kabaal door de zaal rollen.
Denk aan scheurende blazers, stuwende ritmes en de meer theatrale, bombastische Waits-sound vanaf ‘Swordfishtrombones’ (1982) en daarna..
De band kiest bewust voor de muzikale wereld van Waits waarin alles net wat groezeliger, luider en levendiger is. Ze brengen liedjes die ook voelen alsof ze uit een nachtclub, een fabriekshal of een rondreizend circus komen: vol karakter en zonder opsmuk.
Met respect voor het origineel, maar zonder het klakkeloos te kopiëren, met schuurpapier stem, saxofoon, elektrische gitaar, contrabas, drums, percussie en meer laat Zerelda Lee’s horen hoe tijdloos en krachtig de swingende Waits-nummers zijn. Ideaal voor publiek dat van stevige, theatrale muziek houdt — en Tom Waits graag hoort met meer stoom, swing en volume.
